Jackie, you will need to call he U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at (800) 827-1000. They can check your son's records and answer any of your questions.

My son Phillip left the Navy in 1995 with an honorable discharge. He died August 29, 09. I am his mother and he lived with me most of his adult life. Am I entitled to any sort of help with his cremation?

Clementine, Sara and Anonymous.. Your best bet would be to contact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at (800) 827-1000. They can check your father and husband's service records and give you information as to what he was eligible for. Good luck.

My father served in the National Guard back in 1985 and received an Honorable discharge at the end of his enlistment fo two years. He passed away at the age of 40 (2 years ago) and I have no idea as to where to begin with any help for my mother or if she is entitled to any benefits. If anyone has any recommendation i would greatly appreciate it.

Lis, First, I am very sorry about the death of your husband. I'm not sure about $50,000, but I do believe you are entitled to something depending on your late husband's terms of service. Your best bet would be contact the Department of Veterans Affairs either through its website (http://www.vba.va.gov/Survivors/) or by calling (800) 827-1000.

My husband was a veteran and that when he died, the Army would pay me 50,000 for his services. Is this true. Because he recently passed away. Am I entitled to this benefit?

Sincerely,
